Championship Rugby Begins:

Salford 0 – 44 Oldham

After a restructuring off-season, and a long pre-season, Championship rugby returned with a bang… a top championship club from 2025 and a newly formed phoenix club. Oldham travelled to local rivals Salford on the opening night. 

Having experienced a 12 month of what can only be seen to be believed, a Salford club under new ownership and new name, were able to take to the field; the fans not only cheered with delight, but hints of relief and determination that the rebuild of Salford Rugby League starts now. However, the celebrations were long lived as it soon became clear that the Oldham club had too much for Salford, eventually coming out the right side of a 44-0 scoreline. 

Whist the scoreline was not in Salford’s favour, the fans stayed to celebrate and appreciate that no matter the scoreline, “Salford Rugby will never die”. They will be back, no matter the day, the time or the weather. 



Friday night, under the lights… “summer rugby” is well and truly back!!
