FEATHERSTONE ROVERS REMOVED FROM CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2026
2026 was sought to be a new era for rugby, even more so for some of the clubs across the British Rugby League landscape; New league formats for the Championship, even Salford’s new phoenix club after a torrid year. However the new era was not to be for Featherstone Rovers, as the RFL refused membership to the Yorkshire club, inevitably resulting in them being removed from the 2026 Championship season.
Rovers have been a club that have seen a significant decline, seeing finances being the forefront of a team who’s recent ambitions were to compete for promotion to the Betfred Super League, but a restructure was not enough to save the club. Having filed papers with companies house, the club fell deep into administration and new CEO Chris Hamilton now has the job of bringing a Featherstone club back to the forefront of British Rugby League.
Championship club have all since rallied to offer incentives to fans of Featherstone, allowing them to still have a taste of rugby league, whilst offering some proceeds to the Featherstone Rovers Foundation, bringing more finances to the rebuild of the club.
