HAWKHEAD MOVES TO BEDFORD

After working his way through Castleford Tigers’ scholarship programme, youngster Alfie Hawkhead is on his way to first team rugby, after southern side Bedford Tigers completed the signing of the talented back rower.

Having made a number of appearances in the Super League club’s reserve side, Alfie was keen on a move to continue his career development, and under Rob Ashton, Bedford’s Director of Rugby, he will do just that. “In the off-season, we have shifted our attention from League 1 admission and refocused on how we recruit in the club” Ashton mentioned.

Overseeing the move, RWSM’s lead agent, Reece Wysthoff, spoke highly of Bedford and the changes they have made after narrowly missing out on the League 1 admittance, which innevitably swayed Hawkhead. “Bedford are a team that have had some adversity in the last 12 months, but have not let that affect them in any way; in fact, it has only made them stronger. The project that the staff are working on at the club is a lucrative one and talented youngsters like Alfie will certainly grow and excel, with the aim to reach that League 1 status.”
